There isn’t much to do actually. Two key activities – chilling at the beach just in front of Punakaiki Resort and visit Punakaiki Pancake Rocks Blowholes (which is just a 2-min drive away from the Resort).
First, about the beach right in front of the resort. The beach isn’t like Sentosa or East Coast. Far from it. You would not even want to touch the sand, much less lie on it. Dead plants, decaying wood, and I-don’t-know-what-else are everywhere. Add sandflies. Woohoo.
Now, about Pancake Rocks. It’s interesting cause we don’t have this in Singapore. I was quite intrigued by the boom-boom sounds made by the waves coming in and hitting the rock formations. Quick tip: Visit this place just before the tide reaches its highest level. The waves are stronger = greater possibility of seeing blowholes in action!
