Good deal: Denon AV Receiver x500 + 5.1 speaker set up

This is one deal that is too good not to grab. Courts is selling the Denon AVR-X500 (launched in May 2013) plus a free set of 5.1 speakers for $499 only at Expo Hall 3B (the show ends tomorrow). All other Courts outlets are selling this at a discounted price of $599 (UP $899).

Note that the retail price of the AV receiver at launch was £249!

Overall sound: warm sound with no distorted high-pitched cracks. While the 6-inch sub is too small for my liking, it still manages to push some low notes through. I can’t try the surround sound because all five speakers are on my TV console.

AV receiver: Has four HDMI ports. Nice feedback from the volume knob. Intuitive on-screen display; no need to read the manual mostly. Loads of air vents. Supports DTS Master HD for good sounding Bluray. Cheap-looking remote.

Main cons for me:
– a bigger subwoofer cone would be nice
– missing airplay feature which is comes standard in the AVR-X1000 and above
– back lit remote control would be a nice touch

While there are some shortcomings of this set-up, the affordable pricing propelled me to buy the system. The x1000 costs a whopping 800 bucks!

Oh and if you want to know, the StarHub HD Interactive box works with the x500.
