What a way to celebrate the end of exams. Two separate products/services have closed or ceased operations recently.
First up, CineNow (Their website is no longer active). This pre-paid card allows you to rent movies from their nice robotic machine. Each movie costs about $2.49 which is really affordable. Their business idea is really good. Firstly, they provide cheap movies to the heartlanders. Secondly, they may have the power to reduce piracy rates. However, just about 2 months ago, the franchise downsized from 16 outlets to just 4. The nearest outlet to my home is now at Tampines which is still too far compared to the outlet near Fengshan market which was shuttered just recently. I don’t think this startup can last any longer if they keep closing outlets. 😦
Second, Discovery Channel Magazine. No more mythbusters related topics. No more sciencey stuff. No reason was given about this sudden move to stop publication. A call to their office yielded no information except that they will be refunding me the unused credits. Let’s just hope that this is not caused by some complicated problems that can affect the entire discovery lineup/industry. I still haven’t heard any news about the next season of mythbusters though.
